Property futures: Constraints and Opportunities in the Development Process

Liz Lake were invited to attend the first Ceres Property graduate networking event, held at Pleshey Barns in Chelmsford. The event was organised by Planning and Development graduates from Chelmsford and Saffron Walden offices of Ceres Property. It began with networking, followed by an insightful series of talks by Hashi Mohamed of Landmark Chambers, Darragh Harnett of Vistry, Fiona Hunter of Local Authority and Steve Price of DevComms.

The talks opened with an in-depth look into planning and environmental law which focused on Green belt and Grey Belt cases delivered by Hashi Mohamed. Darragh Harnett then spoke about the differences and advantages of traditional house builders versus partnerships. Fiona Huner discussed her work on the Colchester and Tendering Borders Garden Community project, outlining development plan for the project and explaining how collaboration with local councils and partners has helped shape a comprehensive scheme. Steve Price concluded the talks with an overview of how national and local politics can influence planning decisions.

Thank you to everyone who organised the event and the speakers for their contributions. We look forward to future Ceres Property events.
