Abbots Green, Woolpit, Suffolk
Following completion of the majority of houses Liz Lake Associates were asked to undertake an implementation audit of the Abbots Green development in Woolpit, completed by David Wilson Homes.
We’ve been involved in the scheme for a number of years, taken the soft landscape, public open space and play area design through the planning process. It was great to see the high quality soft landscape across the site, with a well implemented tree planting strategy involving native species for biodiversity benefit, alongside non-native species and cultivars for biosecurity and additional seasonal interest.
The central public open space is constructed as a large, seasonally wet attenuation feature with a raised path intersecting. Within the centre of this space is a circular Local Equipped Area of Play (LEAP) featuring timber equipment suited to various age ranges. The openness of this play space creates excellent visual permeability, thereby fully integrating it within the wider development.
