Trent Basin, Nottingham
Working for Blueprint Regeneration with Urban Designer URBED and Architect Marsh Grochowski, Liz Lake Associates were appointed to prepare landscape and public realm proposals for Phase 2 of this strategic waterside renaissance scheme.
The project is located within the Nottingham Waterside SPD area, widely acknowledged as one of Nottingham’s greatest but least developed assets. Stretching from Trent Bridge to Colwick Park along the north bank of the River, the area is currently the focus of far reaching redevelopment proposals. The project provides a mix of contemporary, high quality, low energy homes forming a new kind of sustainable neighbourhood. The design delivers pedestrian friendly streets and attractive green spaces as the setting for the elegant houses and apartments, all forming a distinct identity and a strong sense of place reinforced by open views over the River Trent. The heritage of the site is expressed in the design of the architecture and public realm to further reinforce the site’s character.
Species rich habitats and native planting appropriate to the site are woven through the design of the public realm, including the wildflower meadow lined riverside promenade, delivering significant biodiversity gains. Close collaboration with the project team and existing residents of phase 1 ensured that our work contributes to creating a thriving, sustainable community.
