Retirement living specialist, Richmond Care Villages, appointed Liz Lake Associates to act as Clerk of Works for this exciting scheme. We were also approached by the main contractor, Stepnell, to carry out a series of redesigns and improvements to the previous scheme, and to lise with the Local Authority to successfully secure discharge of the relevant planning conditions.

Designed by PRC, the development has created a 60 bed care home and 55 assisted living apartments set within a secluded mature woodland setting to the rear of the Cheltenham Film and Photographic Studios on Hatherley Lane. The new development has been designed to complement and enhance its woodland swtting which includes a considerable number of protected mature trees. The building incorporiates large areas of glazing which will reflect the surroundings and provide wide views of the natural setting. 

Woodland walkways and bespoke seating enable visitors to fully enjoy the natural landscape. There are also extensive garden areas within the development with rooftop garden terraces on the upper floors, including a sensory garden, raised beds and wheelchair accessible planters. The majority of the historic woodland has been maintained and conserved as a key part of the proposals, with large-scale replanting occuring where trees have been removed due to the disease or to accomodate the proposed built form.
